Square numbers to 100 and their matching square roots

In Maths we have been learning………..

Square numbers to 100 and their matching square roots.
This is part of our Number Knowledge.
It is important to just know these as we can use this knowledge in other areas of maths.

Here are the IXL screenshots that show evidence of my learning.

Here is an image of my Square Root Chart that can be found in my Maths book.

My next  step in Maths is to use this new knowledge to help me solve problems in a variety of other areas of Maths.

Election writing: I would mach for Labour

WALT: Write an effective argument for our chosen political party.

Let's do this, have you heard that before? I think that Labour has the best policies for health.
I am going to show you what polices that i would vote for: Ending HIV, Funding mobile devices for students and Building a new hospital in Dunedin.

First policy i will explain is to aim to end HIV in NZ by 2025.

Labour plan to end HIV in New Zealand by 2025 by getting better health care, why?
So that New Zealand can be a healthy country and so that it can get rid of the disease and maybe other disease too.

Labour has another good policy about funding mobile devices for students.

Labour also wanted to fund mobile divides to students at school, so people like families and students don't have to buy their own devices because they might not have enough money.

As well as funding devices for students labour also wants to build a new hospital  in dunedin.

Labour really wants to build a new hospital in dunedin, the hospital might need to be broken or its just that dunedin needs another hospital, the hospital that they have probably doesn't have enough room for people.

In my next paragraph i will be talking about the policy that i disagree with from another party.

National wants to allow DHBs to fluoridate drinking water, don’t know what Fluoridate is its in toothpaste and apparently helps with cavities, well NEWS FLASH it doesn't its also not good for our bodies.

In this i have been showing you what policies i would vote for and i think that labour has the best health policies.

I think that labour is the best party to vote for. Why? they have the best policies in health. Today i have talked about: Ending HIV in nz, Funding mobile devices for students and Building a new hospital in Dunedin.

Let's do this, but can we really?

Letter Writing

In Writing we have been learning to: Write a formal letter.

We have followed the writing process and have planned and drafted a formal letter.

This shows the process that we have followed.

Here is the letter that I have written Draft letter

Here is my reflection on the letter writing that we have done.
One thing that I found challenging about writing formal letters was to not use text langusage and make sure that the punctuation is right and it sounds formal.

My next step is: look for more opportunities to put my letter writing knowledge into practice in the future.

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns

In this unit I learnt that a Preposition is a word governing a noun or pronoun and expressing a relation to another word or element in the clause, E.g The man on the platform’and ‘She arrived after dinner’,

A grammatical construction is to with parts of speech.

In parts of speech, I already knew what a Noun, Adverb, Adjective, Pronoun and Adjective is.

The ones I didn’t know were Conjunction and Preposition.

Term 2 book review

                                      Anne Frank´s Dairy

                                                      By Anne frank

This dairy is about this young girl named Anne frank she lived with her parents, Otto Frank and her mother Edith Frank she had a sister Margot Frank.
Her dairy is about her life in the world war ii and how she tried to survive. She and her family went into hiding because her family was a Jew,so that meant she was a Jew.The Nazis where trying to find all the Jews a kill them because apparently in those days everyone thought that the Jews where bad.

As well as the Frank family there are four other Jews in the Secret Annex in the house : Hermann and Auguste van Pels with their son Peter, and Fritz Pfeffer. Four of Otto's employees help them be in the hiding and make sure no one finds out about the annex.
The door to the annex is disguised as a book case.
If you want to find out if they get found and if she and her family survived you are gonna have to read her dairy.
I think this book is very interesting because after reading her dairy you would probably want to find out more about her and her family and who survived and you died.
I think people sould read this book its so interesting and good to read if you are bored.

Identify classes of two- and three-dimensional shapes by their geometric properties Assessment task

Careers Education C.V. Writing

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.

A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.

Here is a link to our online Modelling Book that shows the process we have followed.

Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:

  1. That you need to be neat e.g No spelling mistakes, make sure that it has the right punctuation in the right places,it has to have capitals in the right places in names, streets, buildings and cities.

  1. That you have to have referees.

  1. That you have to have a personal statment and what standard you are at school and what

Term 1 Novel Study

Term 1 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel Trash

I found this novel interesting because it was very mysterious and very sad.

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference.

National Standard this covers

  • Year 7/8  Standard
    • using several pieces of information to make inferences
using their prior knowledge, along with information in the text, to interpret abstract ideas, complex plots, and sophisticated themes
    • I can use a range of strategies, such as inferring, to work out more complex words.

My writing

In writing I have been learning to:
  • use all basic punctuation independently
  • attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focusing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

Leadership is a skill of being able to motivate people/teams to work towards a goal. There are 6 traits of being an effective leader, they are,Trustworthy,Integrity,Resilient,Goal focused,Active thinker,Motivational. My key leadership role for 2017 is a peer mediator, this means that each week i walk around the school and help with peoples problems, but not physical violence.

Games with minimal or no equipment.

In PE we have been participating in a variety of games that require little or no equipment.
Below is the Matrix which shows our progression in this unit of learning.

Screen Shot 2017-03-12 at 12.32.06 PM.png

The table below shows my understanding of games with minimal or no equipment.
(Fill this table in, in as much detail as possible. )

Examples of Games that need minimal or no equipment.
What equipment would we usually need to play these games.
Why do we play games with minimal or no equipment?
tag
octopus
invisible tag
tricky tag
cones, bibs, flagsso if we just thought about it like 10 mins ago or something we don't have to go through all the hassle of trying to get equipment and booking to use equipment and trying to find equipment that we need

My Strengths.
Some things that I have done well during this unit of learning are i have been resilient because when there was a game i didn't want to play i didn't give up and not played the game i played the game and did my best to follow the rules
My Next Steps.
Some things I could improve on when playing games with minimal or no equipment are being more enthusiastic when playing the game and trying to enjoy it  Because if the game isn't a game that i like i need to be more enthusiastic about playing the game and not judging the name and try the game out

Term 1 Integrated Learning - Leadership

We have been learning all about What makes a good leader.

We identified that good leaders show 6 main character traits. These are Motivational,
Integrity, Resilient, Goal Focused, Trustworthy and Active Thinker.

The leadership trait that I think I show the most is Goal Focused because i try my best at finishing my goal.

The leadership trait I would most like to develop is Active Thinker because i dont choose a good place to learn, so i get distracted.

Something NEW I have learned about leadership is the leadership traits because i didn't know what they meant and I do now.
